First steps...

While there's a pretty good chance that this could back-fire on me...I am putting it out there:
I will climb Mount Kilimanjaro in 2013.

And while it's probably not much of a surprise to anyone that I would plan an adventurous trip to Africa...my travel plans generally tend to lean towards the kind of trips that don't require you to pack a sleeping bag.

Why the change of direction, you ask? Well, for starters, I am turning 40 next year. A milestone to be celebrated, no doubt. But it also feels like a good time to challenge myself - both physically and mentally - to do something unexpected, difficult, new and - hopefully - incredibly rewarding.

This vacation will likely be organized as a solo trip but as part of a group trek up the mountain - with a pre-climb safari, and some beach time in Zanzibar afterwards. But...should any of my friends and family want to consider joining me on this journey, please reach out by e-mail or post a comment here. Timing will likely be in the month of May. It takes a week to climb the mountain.

I will continue to update this blog with my research as my trip details start to get firmed up.

Stay tuned...
